Robert LaFoya Gains Independence with Olympia
"When I first started using Telesensory's products, my wife and I were immediately able to enjoy more of the things we love to do together," says Robert LaFoya.
Maintaining a keen sense of sight is an important factor in staying active. Robert LaFoya, a retired firefighter from Lancaster, California, has found Telesensory's portable products helpful with a variety of activities. Keeping in touch with friends has never been easier, with once-obscure phone listings now accessible in magnified print. "With the Olympia, I can look up phone numbers in just seconds, without having to squint or lose my place in the phone book!" says LaFoya.
Robert LaFoya has macular degeneration, which makes it difficult for him to see detailed objects, and limits his ability to do many of the things he enjoys. But with Telesensory's portable video magnifiers, Mr. LaFoya is able to remain active and on the go without sacrificing quality-of-life. "The brightness is excellent, and I have no problems seeing any of the words," he adds.
The Olympia offers versatility, portability and superior image quality. Olympia comes with a neck strap, rechargeable battery pack, writing stand and carrying case. "When I use the Olympia at home, the tilted screen really helps me remain in a comfortable position without having to lean over the unit while I read," exclaims Mr. LaFoya. For on-the-go purposes, the rechargeable battery pack is lightweight and lasts for up to five hours, "So I can use Olympia on those long drives to the baseball game," he adds.
The writing stand offers 4.75" of clearance, allowing plenty of room to examine treasured objects from his vast collection. Mr. LaFoya uses the Olympia writing stand to determine the minting on a rare quarter, or the autograph on one of his many signed baseballs. "The quality and clarity of the color image that I get with Olympia is invaluable," says LaFoya. The magnification range is up to 26 times on the 7" screen, and 76 times when the Olympia plugs into a 20" TV. "I haven't seen this much detail for many years. Now I can see the things that are important to me... including the checks my wife writes! (And she's not too happy about that!)"
Mr. LaFoya and his wife Louise share many beloved interests, including dancing the Jitterbug, for which they won a national championship. The couple avidly follows baseball, and much of their time during the regular season is spent keeping up on batting averages and other exciting statistics. "I love to read the sports section, and with the versatility Olympia offers, now I can put on the neck strap and view the newspaper on the go, or on my television screen!" says Mr. LaFoya. "Or I can even use Olympia in the car while my wife drives," add LaFoya. The Olympia offers people the freedom to access information that is important to them, in the place and the time that is most convenient for them.
Because Telesensory's products enhance the quality of life by providing augmented sight to those with low vision, it is hard to imagine living without the devices once you've tried them. When asked whether he would like to continue using the Olympia, Mr. LaFoya replied, "You'll have to pry it out of my hands!" And with a spry man like Robert LaFoya, it is clear that the Olympia is the ideal solution.
