CEU Course

This course "The Vision Resource Professional" has been approved by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) for 3 continuing education hours.

Below is a brief course synopsis. We feel you'll find this course to be a valuable tool for your work and interaction with people who are visually impaired.

Course Description

This 3 hour course is designed to provide sufficient training for counselors, teachers, or others whose work requires them to serve who are visually impaired. As a Certified Vision Resource Professional, they will be able to: (1) Have a basic understanding of the Low Vision Condition, and the grief process as it affects the person afflicted, as well as family, friends, or co-workers. (2) Complete an accurate assessment of the lifestyle needs of the client. (3) Assist the client in making their home/office "Low Vision Friendly". (4) select and demonstrate the use of adaptive technology, including hand held magnifiers, Closed Circuit Television equipment, and other devices available. Provide hands on training in the use of the equipment to the extent that the client is self-sufficient at the end of the session.

The scope of this course is practical knowledge and training that does not in anyway approach medical, ophthalmological, or optometric practices, nor does this course certification infer any such level of proficiency. It is intended only to guide those counseling, consulting, and/or teaching professionals whose work requires them to provide care for those who are visually impaired, and to do so in an effective and expedient nature. The products we intend to qualify course participants on are stand alone Closed Circuit Televisions, those used in conjunction with computers, as well as a line of portable equipment we distribute. We will also include training on hand held, stand, and other types of small magnifiers which can be used in addition to, or exclusively by the client, depending upon their needs. Each participant will receive a course syllabus, and training materials in a binder that can be kept for their continued review.

The course instructors have many years of training experience, and in the field of low vision care.

Nagel's Visual Aid Systems, which serves a four state area, has been in business since 1986, and our retail store in Independence, Missouri, is in its fourth year of operation. The assessment tools used are the result of just as many years of experience working with people who are visually impaired to help make their lifestyle, easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

Certification will be based upon attendance at the entire experience, and ability to conduct a practical demonstration of the equipment while observed by the instructor(s).
