A Veteran's Poem

To Thirza Thompson, The VMC & Victors

Thirza, I want to thank you,
The VMC and Victors, too.
I don't know how you manage
To do all the things you do.
As I sit and look out my window
At my world that's growing dim
I had hoped that my sight would get better
But that chance is growing slim.
We have tried eyeglasses, magnifiers and such
Some of them helped a little
And some not very much.
I use my halogen floor lamp
It helps me when I eat
I take it to the table
To tell my veggies from my meat.
The CC Magnisight is no fun,
Because it's much too slow.
But I read with it anyway,
The things I have to know.
Thirza, I’ll give you credit
You've put up a very good fight.
But I don't think there's anything
That will help improve my sight.
So I'd like you to thank Jeff,
Who photographed my eye.
I don't think I’ll ever forget
That bright yellow gold dye!
Also thank all of the doctors
There names are also dim
I still remember three of them
One Joe, one Shawn and one Tim.
And also thank the Eye Clinic,
The VMC and Victors crew.
And don't forget to thank old Gus and Mark
And Ron and Mona, too.
Sometimes I sit and wonder
What us old vets would do
If it were not for the VMC
And all the good folks like you.

Thanks again and God Bless you all
